Day 15 – Steven Ju

1. What do you do for a living? (occupation/field of study)

I’m currently an Audio Visual Systems Engineer at a financial firm.

2. How do you like to spend your free time?

I like cooking and definitely love eating. I also enjoy reading a good book and hanging out with friends. I also like watching random Youtube videos but I should do less of that honestly.. it really sucks you in and overloads you with content.

3. Share one interesting fact about you that most people don’t know!

I can’t really swim. Well I could swim for a bit but I don’t know how to stay afloat. I could probably drown in a 5’11’’ deep pool.

4. Do you have a favorite book in the Bible? If you do, which one is it and why?

My favorite book in the Bible is Genesis. Funny enough, I think it holds a special place in my heart because it’s always the very hopeful (& often short lived) start of many years of failed bible plans. I’ve read this book so many times and feel like the stories within it are so familiar & vivid to me. And there’s a lot of them! Like any great book, the beginning sets up the rest of the story and Genesis does it better than any other. I really feel like in every section, you can see the crazy brokenness of people next to the almost unreasonable faithfulness and patience of God. I see the foundations being laid for Jesus to come & it fills me with hope knowing that God had it all figured out from the very start.

5. Is there a verse/passage in the Bible that has significantly impacted your life? If so, which is it and why?

I’m always convicted by the Parable of the Talents in Matthew. There’s definitely temptation in my life at times to do the bare minimum and find the path of least resistance. This passage always reminds me that God has entrusted certain abilities, resources, and time to me, and that I’m to use it for his Kingdom; not wasting it or using it only for my benefit.

6. Is there a prayer request that has been on your heart recently? If so, please share with us.

Please pray for my brother-in-law Griffin who has been having some tough health issues related to mold toxicity. He’s also not a believer so please pray that God would meet him powerfully, especially in this season of sickness and struggle.

7. Tell us about how you met Christ? (feel free to share a brief testimony)

I met Christ at a retreat I went to in middle school. I remember it was at New Jersey Christian Academy and the theme was “Work In Progress.” What a great theme. Super relevant even now. I had been going to church my whole short life up until that point but hadn’t made a decision to live for Jesus. I went to church to play games and hang out with friends. I remember that retreat being the first time that I really asked God for help. In my little middle school struggles and issues, I cried out that I couldn’t do things on my own anymore and went totally bananas with all my friends on that last night. I don’t think I fully knew the depth of what I was getting myself into at that moment, but I always see it as the first chapter of my walk with God that is being written every day.
