Day 5 - Hyun Hong

Is there a specific Bible passage or verse that comes to mind in the context of “Less of Me and More of Him”?

Mark 12:41-44 And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

In Mark 12:41-44, a poor widow gives up all her remaining wealth as an offering to the Lord. This truly epitomizes "Less of me and More of Him" because this woman loves the Lord with all her heart and is willing to do anything for Him, even at the cost of being completely empty-handed. Although she has nothing in the world, she has everything in Christ, and her unwavering faith in Him shows that all she really needs is Him. I find this passage really encouraging because I struggle to give up even the small things for the Lord. I lack the humility and the heart to live for His glory, and I need to ask Him to change my heart and make me more like the widow in this passage.

Briefly explain which areas of your life you find most difficult to surrender to Christ.

I definitely don't seek Christ enough because I normally seek comfort, fulfillment, and security through my worldly desires. Even though I am aware that all the answers to my problems are found through Him, I tend to look for the answers myself because I feel like I can handle it on my own. I make a grave mistake in not surrendering to Him when I need guidance and strength which is why I must make Him greater and make myself less. He knows me better than I know myself, and I need to trust His wisdom and knowledge because He is constantly doing what's best for me.

Share the areas of your life that have shifted from self-centeredness to Christ-centeredness.

I have been more willing to be part of a church community, to share my faith experience, and to listen to the testimonies of others as well. I believe Christ wants me to build strong relationships with His people, serve them, and truly engage in partnership with His church. If I were to follow my desires, I would prioritize things that satisfy me, focusing solely on myself. However, because I prioritize Christ, I am willing to do what pleases Him.

What are some practical ways you can display Christ to those around you?

My words and actions will reflect Christ when I demonstrate the same love and care to people that the Lord has shown me. Although this can be challenging to do alone, I need to seek the Holy Spirit to make me more like Christ, so that others can see His presence and work in me. I think practicing patience, forgiveness, and understanding towards others is a great way to start. Doing these things will show those around me that I am here to support and care for them.
